about
The Gloria has probably the most unconventional affect of this piece, focusing on the idea of enormity and overwhelmingness instead of the usual brilliance and celebration associated with glory. This is an older interpretation, having to do with the word's ancient association with weight and heaviness as well as majesty and wonder, and it feels appropriate given the idea of something so far beyond humanity as the splendor of heaven.
lyrics

et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis // and on earth peace to men of good will.
Laudamus te, benedicimus te, // We praise You, we bless You,
adoramus te, glorificamus te, // we adore You, we glorify You,
gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam // we give you thanks for Your great glory,
Domine Deus, Rex coelestis, // Lord God, heavenly King,
Deus Pater omnipotens. // God the almighty Father.
